Noise Vs Signal in Pediatric Dentistry and life

It’s important to differentiate between the two most common terms that carry information: noise and a signal.

‘Noise’ is a term used for continuous download of information which is on autopilot mode when we are amidst almost 8 billion people on the planet earth.

The technical definition of noise refers to it as irregular fluctuations that accompany the transmitted electric signal but are not the part of it and tend to obscure it.

Noise does not deserve our active action or attention. its sometimes, just enough to acknowledge its presence if really needed.

Signal is addressed a gesture or action that is used to convey information or instructions typically the pre-arranged and pre agreed ones to ensure adequate progression of the task.

Signal, although is a meaningful alert and should be attended to as early as possible. Signal deserves attention, and well thought action to amend anything that needs to be.

Signal in pediatric dentistry happens when child is uncomfortable beyond the point where things had been already addressed. we must then stop, address the concern, and continue.

in pediatric dentistry, noise can be the continuous whining that goes on during the procedure. we must stop in these situations stop, reeducate the child about the steps and possible during the treatment.

its important to learn the difference between the noise and signal because this would truly help us attend to what’s important rather than draining ourselves on every little spark.
