Home tips for dental friendly diet

Dental caries is a multifactorial disease where out of many factors, diet and oral hygiene practice
do play a profound role in the upkeep.
Good dietary habits from a very early age lay a solid foundation in children’s dental health. A
balanced diet helps in the development of strong teeth and gums while preventing tooth decay
and cavities.
The significance of biannual dental checkups is always predominant and this goes hand in hand
with home care in terms of brushing routines and diet intake.
Here are some key dietary guidelines for kids:

  1. Limit Sugary Foods and Drinks:
Sugars from candies, sugary drinks, fizzy drinks, juices and snacks feed harmful bacteria
in the mouth, which produce acids that can damage tooth enamel. Limiting sugary treats
    reduces the risk of cavities.
  2. Promote Healthy Snacks:
Offer nutritious snacks like fruits, vegetables, nuts, and whole grains. These foods are
rich in vitamins and minerals, especially calcium, phosphorus, and vitamin D, which are
    essential for strong teeth.
  3. Encourage Drinking Water:
Water helps rinse away food particles and bacteria, maintaining mouth cleanliness.Water
also neutralizes acid production thereby reducing the chances of caries. Fluoridated water
is especially beneficial as it strengthens enamel and helps prevent tooth decay.
  4. Include Dairy Products:
Foods like milk, cheese, and yogurt provide calcium and phosphates help build strong
teeth and bones. Additionally, these foods have cleansing effects that restrict the food
    retention.
  5. Serve Fiber-Rich Foods:
High-fiber foods, such as apples, carrots and cucumbers stimulate saliva production,
which naturally protects teeth by neutralizing acids in the mouth.
By making these foods part of daily meals and limiting sugary treats, children can maintain
healthy teeth and gums for a lifetime.
